INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN TIPS: Group Work
Evaluate Individual Members of a Group - Grading
Student concerns that group work will lower their individual grade
can be partially assuaged through providing a grade for individual
participation in the group.
[ID Tip: "check in" with students by having them do a non-evaluative,
anonymous assessment of their groups half-way through the quarter, using
Blackboard's Survey function. Address problem areas in class, opening
up discussion, providing guidance]
Peer-evaluation - Who contributed what?
- Include a self-evaluation section
- Have peer evaluations sent directly to the instructor
- Link directly to pre-determined and explicit criteria, linked to
grading criteria [sample peer evaluation]
- Tip - Have students assign Bonus Bucks. Have each student take
the role of supervisor. Out of the $2000 bonus top management has assigned
to reward the group's excellent work - have each student assign a portion
to each group participant.
