Setting Up Your Condor Account

Condor

Condor is a UNIX-based web server specifically for use by DePaul faculty and staff. Create a web site that highlights your interests and activities with links to your research materials, Curriculum Vitae, professional organizations, and individual course web sites (including Blackboard sites).

Your Condor Account

To create a professional web page that people around the world can view, you first need to request and set up an account on a web server:
1. Request an account on the DePaul faculty web server - condor.depaul.edu.
2. Set up your condor account. Create a public_html directory, set the proper 'permissions' for your directory, change your password.
Once the account is set up, you can begin building your web site, starting with an index.html page.
To request a web site for your department or program, use the request form at: http://is.depaul.edu/resources/forms/departmental_website.asp. You might also consider using the services of University Publications to help create your departmental web site.

Creating a New Page

The process to create a new web page is the same as for updating an existing page:

  • Create a new page (or save the existing page) locally - either on your hard drive or a diskette.
  • Add new content or edit existing material in Dreamweaver or by using HTML, Save.
  • Transfer (FTP) the completed page to your condor account using SSH.
  • Check for and 'troubleshoot' web page problems on condor.
  • Name the file for your main page - your home page - 'index.html' This automatically becomes the first page visitors see when they come to your website.

Your DePaul web site will have a URL address similar to this one: http://condor.depaul.edu/~username (where 'username' will probably be your first initial followed by part or all of your last name).
