Using Audio and Video

Video Process

Step 3: Capture / Edit

The next step is to capture the video and audio into the computer and then edit it. If you use MARS to record to CD, you may capturing the audio.

Capturing allows us to take video from MiniDV, DVD or VHS formats and turn them into files on the computer hard drive that can be manipulated, or edited. Capturing is a time-intensive process. First, it requires that you watch the source material and log the clips you would like to use. This will help you plan ahead and make better use of computer hard drive space and your time. Second, you will capture the clips you would like to use in the software. For capturing and editing, we support Windows Movie Maker on the PC and IMovie on the Mac platform. Both programs are easy-to-use and incorporate professional editing tools.

After the video clips you would like to incorporate have been captured, now you must edit it into its proper sequence and fine-tune the clips you have captured. Using non-linear digital editing allows you to move clips in different orders and put clips in any order. Non-linear editing is not constrained by when the clip took place on your source material. Once you have the sequence in the order you like, you may add transitions between clips such as fade-in and fade-out, and title graphics.

For pure audio editing, we support Audacity, which is a free and robust tool, similar to SoundForge. Audacity can output to .WAV and .MP3 formats.
