Faculty Lab Help Guides
Each computer in the ITD Faculty Labs is designated for specific tasks and have the software loaded for those tasks. Check the guides available on each computer monitor to identify the correct machine for your purposes.
The list below contains ONLY guides that are available on the ITD website and that might provide assistance to faculty outside the faculty labs (for instance, faculty who have a licensed, purchased copy of Dreamweaver. If you need assistance do not hesitate to contact us.
Getting Information to Students: Guidelines - criteria for determining when to use pdf, Word, or rtf files |
PDF vs. RTF vs. HTML Recommendations on when and why to use the PDF format vs. other formats and avenues. |
Scan pictures, graphics or slides: Create jpg or gif files for presentations, web pages, or use in documents |
Scanning Photos and Graphics: Scan color or black and white photos, drawings, or other types of graphic from original photographs, magazines, or hand-drawn items. |
Scan Printed Text: Create Microsoft Word or rtf files from printed text such as a dissertation, paper, or other item that contains few or no images. |
Scan to PDF: Instructions on how to scan a page of text as a single image. This image maintains the integrity of the page design.
Save or Print to PDF: Use Adobe Acrobat to save Powerpoint handouts or other original files in PDF format. Users will need the free Adobe Reader to open these files. |
Digitizing Video and Audio Capture short segments from either video tape or audio tape to save to CD or post to ITD's streaming media server for access through the Web. |

Guide Books Available for Some Faculty Lab Software
Guidebooks are available in the faculty lab or ITD office on the Loop or Lincoln Park Campus for several of the software packages. Faculty are welcome to request and use these guides while they are in the Lab
